Purdue University Calumet’s innovative, award-winning equine business management academic program is hosting a Horse Business Seminar, Saturday, Nov. 7, for stable owners and others involved in equine-related business activities.

Seminar sponsors are the Indiana Horse Council, Kent Feeds and Purdue Calumet, whose equine business management program recently received the Academy of Educational Leadership’s Creative and Innovative Education Award.

Seminar topics include: Running a Smart and Profitable Equine Business, Business Plan Workshop, Preparing for and Surviving Tax Audits, Economics of Equine Health Care, Successful Boarding Stable Techniques and Experiences, Managing Your Hay & Pasture Program, and Feed Selection.

“This seminar will emphasize business skills that are often lacking in individuals running equine businesses,” Purdue Calumet Professor and Equine Business Management Program Coordinator Sue Connors said. “That’s what makes this seminar unique from typical horse seminars.”

Speakers include Purdue and Purdue Calumet faculty members, as well as business and legal professionals.

The seminar is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Purdue Calumet Conference Center. The fee to attend is $35, including lunch. Individuals must register by Nov. 1 online at www.indianahorsecouncil.org or mail their fee to Indiana Horse Council Business Seminar, c/o Donna McDowell, Horse Business Seminar, 7317 S. County Road 750 E., Plainfield, IN 46168.

Purdue Calumet offers a major in equine business management within its Bachelor of Arts degree in Business, as well as an online Equine Management professional certificate in partnership with Purdue’s West Lafayette campus.

More information is available by contacting Professor Connors at 219/204-1426 or equine@calumet.purdue.edu
